Transformers are needed to reduce building voltage down from 480 volts to IT voltages of 120/208 volts. Additionally transformers are used to provide isolation and re-establish neutral to ground bonding. In all cases there are efficiency losses which are best minimized. Doing so reduces power input to the transformer and when the transformer is in air conditioned space, reduce air conditioning load. This is a Highly Green Solution that saves energy and user dollars in a life cycle analysis.
