Below are links to technical item of interest when going Green. Some will be IT related and some are simply general purpose Green.
Toshiba has a new White Paper discussing their new technology developed for mid-range UPS systems (80-225 kVA). The paper provides a good explanation of the new technology and also why it results in a more efficient UPS.
Compact Fluorescents. Every wonder how a CFL draws current. We did and here is what it looks like (CFL Waveform). Note the waveform has a 0.62 non linear power factor. Power draw VA is 22 VA and 14 Watts. Current THD is 94%. Primary harmonics include 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 17 and 19. All of these exceed 10% of the fundamental 60 HZ wave. Specific CFL tested was N:vision soft wite BR30 65 watt equivalent, 120V, 2700k, model 2R3014, 14W, 0.23 amp, V#42836, serial # 0824250.
To compare with a standard 65 watt incandescent bulb take a look here (Incandescent Waveform). The waveform has a 1.0 linear power factor. Power draw is 66VA and 66Waats. Current THD is 3.5%. No harmonic exceeds 3% of fundamental 60 Hz wave.
